Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has agreed to terms on a four-year, $136 million contract with a record $38 million signing bonus.
Lamb had been waiting on a new contract following last season’s production in which he amassed 135 receptions, 1,749 yards, 12 receiving touchdowns, and two rushing touchdowns. His level of play helped the Cowboys finish with a 12-5 record and their second division title in three seasons. After months of waiting and speculation on Lamb’s future with the Cowboys, a deal was eventually able to be reached.
Lamb was absent from the team’s voluntary workouts in April as well as mandatory minicamp in June as he patiently waited for a new contract to be done. New contracts were also being negotiated with quarterback Dak Prescott and edge rusher Micah Parsons. While the team had been prioritizing Lamb’s extension for some time, they were still far apart in contract negotiations.
The holdout dragged into training camp with Lamb remaining absent from the team for an extended period of time. A new deal was eventually able to be reached with Lamb now becoming the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The only non-quarterback with a higher average salary than Lamb is Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson who signed a four-year $140 million extension in June.
Throughout his four years with the Cowboys, Lamb has recorded 5,145 receiving yards and 36 total touchdowns along with three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro appearances. With the star wide receiver now locked up for the foreseeable future, the Cowboys should expect this level of production to continue. This deal was also important given that the Cowboys opener against the Cleveland Browns is less than a week away.
This contract extension was huge for the Cowboys. With Lamb signed, the team can now shift their focus towards the 2024 season which is shaping up to be an interesting year for the team.
