Soundscapes
On March 26th,the Soundscapes Benefit Concert was put on by CNU’s music Greek organizations, Nu Kappa Epsilon, Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Mu Alpha, and Kappa Kappa Psi. The concert was put on to raise money for the Soundscapes non profit organization, which works to help provide opportunities for students in the Virginia Peninsula via free after school programs, weekend and summer programs, and through a partnership with the Peninsula Youth Orchestra.
The event, MC’d by Phi Mu Alpha President Levi Langolf, featured great performances by the Brothers and Sisters of the various CNU Greek groups. Opening the show was the student clarinet choir ensemble Silver Keys which performed the peaceful theme of Animal Crossing: New Horizons and then went to the more jazzy song Zoot Suit Riot, covering the whole spectrum of what the clarinet could do. It was followed by a great performance by the band Sisters of Sisyphus, made up of NKE members, who performed two alternative rock hits, “Thnks fr the mmrs” by Fall Out Boy and “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood. Then came the unique duet of the classic song “Just The Two of Us” on kazoos by KKPsi members Taylor Nordike and Max King.
Then came an excellent violin and trumpet duet by the event’s MC Levi Langoff and Kaysea Calvert. Following that, the sisters of NKE performed their chorale and a rendition of Holding Out for a Hero, with Chip Herrera and Becca Matthews as excellent soloists. The brothers of Phi Mu Alpha came out with three a cappella songs (Viva L’amour, Hello Mary Lou, Brother to Brother) and then the sisters of Sigma Alpha Iota performing three a capella songs of their own (The ΣAI chorale, So Near So Dear is ΣAI, and Pipers of Pan). Two special guests from the Soundscapes performed a viola and cello duet
Another band of students, KKPSi’s Thirstiest Percussionists, entertained the crowd with awesome percussion covers of Margaritaville and Tequila. George Thorogood & The Destroyers 2: Electric Boogaloo, a band of Phi Mu Alpha brothers, shocked (pun intended) the audience with a completely electronic cover, meaning only using electronic instruments, of the song “Bad to the Bone”. Kappa Kappa Psi returned to the stage after with three great songs; the Kappa Kappa Psi Fraternity Song, a medley of Dragon Ball Z songs, and Cruel Angel’s Thesis (from the hit anime Neon Genesis Evangelion)
The event was closed with all the Greek organizations’ beautiful performance of the classic love song, Can’t Help Falling in Love. Soundscapes 2023 was definitely a wonderful event and one you should consider attending in the future to support our CNU Music Greeks and enjoy wonderful music.
