Let me be fully transparent with the audience and state that I am a Stanley cup owner. A new one at that, but nonetheless another victim of the trend. To be completely honest, I was slightly embarrassed to have gone out of my way to buy one after viewing the video of Target customers barbarically stripping the Starbucks x Stanley cup display in less than five minutes. It’s like Stanley cups are the only product that can bring back the original chaos of 2010s Black Friday shopping. So yeah, it made me feel like a bit of a sheep. But let’s be real. At this day in age, it’s almost impossible not to be influenced by something. It’s everywhere. “The viral ____.” “Run, don’t walk, to ______ to buy _____.”
Honestly, the promotion of buying a sustainable and reusable water bottle seems to lie on the more positive side of things when it comes to how easily our generation is influenced. It could be a lot worse; kids could be doing heroin in the street instead of buying Stanley cups. And you know what- it’s worth it. That’s my consensus. As both a former Yeti and Hydroflask girl myself, I feel like I’ve built up some credentials in the arena of reusable emotional support water bottles. Even though all reusable water bottles boil down to the same purpose, I understand why Stanleys yield the popularity that they do. For one, they just look cute. Stanley is constantly releasing new styles and colors for Gen Z to lose their minds over.
But here’s what takes the cake- the straw. I swear it makes drinking water more fun. Atleast, that’s what sold me. Not to mention your water stays ice cold forever, which is always a plus. The only con here is the practicality of the cup, as it typically doesn’t fit in a backpack and you have to obnoxiously sling it around by its large side handle. If you think of it as an accessory, which at this point it may as well be, then it’s not so bad. All in all, if this is the product that heavily persuades our generation, as well as many others, to convert to reusable water bottles, who am I to disagree? I say go buy yourself a Stanley cup if you can- it’s totally worth it.
