There are many ways to engage in hobbies and get involved at college. Clubs and organizations offer an easy way for students to explore their interests, connect with like-minded peers and engage in meaningful activities outside of their academics. Christopher Newport University has many unique clubs/organizations, and it could have more!
- Bad Movie Club
What’s more fun than laughing at a bad movie with your friends? The Bad Movie club would allow students to bond over bad movies, whether it’s over the bad cinematography, the bad acting, or the bad plot. It’s healthy to laugh and complain every once in a while and Bad Movie club would be a great outlet for that.
- Upcycle/Thrifting Club
With CNU’s emphasis on sustainability, an upcycling club could be a welcome addition to campus. Students can bring in old pieces of clothing and turn them into pieces they’d actually wear, or exchange them with other members. An upcycling club could also be a good organization for hosting donation drives for clothing, among other things. There are many thrift stores in the Newport News area that would love donations!
- Coffee Club
CNU had a Coffee club in the past and it’s time to bring it back! Members can try new coffee recipes every week, as well as visit local coffee shops and try new menu items. With Einstein’s right on campus, there’s no reason not to!
- Yoga Club
College is stressful, and it’s hard to find time to get some physical activity in during the week. Having a yoga club may help students find some stress relief and reset for the week. You can bring a cute yoga mat, and some friends and take a break from school work!
- Quiz Club
Do you like game shows like Jeopardy, Family Feud, etc? It would be so fun to have a quiz club, where every week is a different style trivia game. Grab a group of friends or make a group when you arrive. There’s so much room for creativity with this club – themes can vary based on club member’s interests!
- Random Acts of Kindness Club
Students can spread positivity and kindness on campus and in the community through volunteering, fundraising for charitable causes and organizing random acts of kindness initiatives, such as leaving uplifting notes around campus or giving out free hugs!
