San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was released from the hospital on Sunday after taking a shot to the chest the day before during an attempted robbery in San Francisco.
Pearsall’s condition had been deemed serious but stable on Saturday before reaching fair condition on Sunday, allowing his release from San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.
On the same day, Pearsall’s mother Erin Pearsall posted on Facebook that the bullet did not hit any vital organs.
Pearsall had been signing autographs earlier in the day and was heading to Union Square on Saturday at around 3:30 p.m. local time when a suspect attempted to rob him with a gun. Eight minutes later, the San Francisco Fire Department reported shots fired a block away from where Pearsall was headed. Police arrived not too long after the report was made.
The suspect is believed to be a 17-year old male from Tracy, California who was arrested on Saturday, according to San Francisco Police Chief William Scott.
While it was believed that the suspect was acting alone in the attempted robbery of Pearsall, surveillance checks will be conducted around the area to see if anyone else may have been involved.
Pearsall played at Arizona State for three years before transferring to Florida for the final two seasons of his college career, recording 965 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his final season of college with the Gators.
Pearsall was drafted in the first round of April’s NFL Draft by the 49ers but has been hampered by injuries since beginning his professional career. He has missed time during training camp with hamstring and shoulder injuries, limiting his work on the practice field. The team has hoped that he can serve as a complementary option to a wide receiving room that includes All-Pro wide receivers Deebo Samuel Sr. and Brandon Aiyuk.
