The Marching Captains seniors performed at their last game on Friday. A night full of high energy game play and music served as the perfect send off for the graduating class. With over 20 graduating seniors, the Marching Captains had a lot to celebrate at their final home game of the season.
Family and friends gathered around the Atrium to watch the band’s pre performance, which took place after the seniors were given their honorary blue plumes. Director Mark Johnson gave some thoughtful words of encouragement to the graduating class, telling them “We will exist in the years to come because of what you’ve done here. The blue plume is a symbol of all that hard work.”
The music echoed through the Atrium and created a unique sound different to what you’d hear on the football field. Family and friends had a great time watching the band’s pre-game routine, including a funny “ritual” where members lift senior Alysia Alexander into the air. After their Atrium performance, the band marched across campus to the tailgate, where they performed several arrangements including Demi Lovato’s “Confident”.
The energy was high at halftime with the Captains leading 35-3. The seniors were recognized during halftime before their performance, with each senior’s major and instrument being named as the stands cheered and applauded them. They performed Demi Lovato’s “Confident”, Macklemore’s “Downtown” and David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance”.
This wasn’t the senior’s last time performing. The Marching Captains have their trip to London next year to look forward to, where they are performing at the London New Year’s Parade.
The Captains continued to lead throughout the third and fourth quarters, with the help of the Marching Captains keeping everyone hyped up. Songs they played throughout the game included “Lip Gloss” by Lil Mama and “HOT TO GO” by Chappell Roan.
After a well deserved celebration of the football team’s win, the team ran over to the bleachers where the Marching Captains were playing. The two groups stood across from each other, linking arms and singing the CNU Alma Mater.
The work that goes into just one game day is impressive to witness. From walking to just about every location on campus with big instruments to going back and forth between the stands and the field to support the football team, The Marching Captains hard work should not go unnoticed.
