The fashion industry is constantly changing as many things are going in and out of style. Many people take to social media or magazines to find the latest fashion trends to follow up on. However, what if I told you that there are some trends from movies and shows that are still worn today? Down below I have listed some fashion trends from some of our favorite and classic movies and shows.
- Matching Plaid Sets –Clueless (1995)
Cher knew what she was doing when she was sporting her iconic yellow plaid matching set, taking the fashion industry by storm. This outfit still remains an important part of the film, as many people value Cher for her savvy style. Since the film came out in 1995, many people have been incorporating plaid in their everyday outfits. Plaid blazers have recently been in style, and can be sported with a cute skirt to match.
- Mini Skirt and Kitten Heels –Mean Girls (2004)
The 2000’s were a big year when it came to fashion and no one did it better than the iconic characters from Mean Girls. Their mini skirt and kitten heels were a staple in the film, as it represented their diva-like personalities. My favorite outfit from the film was when Cady wore a light blue zip up with a pink shirt underneath and a short skirt to match. She also wore matching kitten heels which tied the outfit perfectly together. I feel that many individuals to this day are still sporting this look, as fashion trends from the 2000’s are making a comeback.
- Tweed Blazers and Knee High Boots –The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
Anne Hathaway absolutely slayed this look in The Devil Wears Prada. She sported a black tweed jacket with a mini skirt and knee high boots. This outfit combination was absolutely perfect as the pieces complimented each other nicely. Not only was this outfit purely iconic, but really gave knee high boots a comeback again in 2023. Now, many people are sporting these to complete their effortless fall look. I even bought myself a pair of dark brown boots because of how awesome they look paired with any fall outfit.
- Baby Doll Dresses –13 Going on 30 (2004)
Everyone remembers Jennifer Garner’s movie 13 Going on 30 and how babydoll dresses were incorporated in every single scene of the film. Let’s just say that she slayed this look, as each dress was so cute and simple. Who could even forget her bright blue babydoll dress with a red, green and purple stripe on it. So iconic. I especially love how babydoll dresses have never gone out of style, as many people love dressing up with them. They are the perfect staple to add to any closet as you can wear them casually, formally or add your own twist to them.
- Skirts with Sweaters –Gilmore Girls (2000)
Rory Gilmore has become a fashion icon for the fall season, sporting a sweater with a skirt on numerous occasions in the series. This is where fashion meets comfy as Gilmore Girls is primarily set during the fall season. This fashion trend is still holding true today as many individuals are sporting their favorite sweater with a skirt and tights. As someone who enjoys dressing up for the fall, I loved seeing the outfits that Rory came up with throughout the film.
