When visiting the historic triangle of Virginia, one of my favorite places that I’ve been to was Retro’s, located in Colonial Williamsburg.
Retro’s is a burger joint that is styled around the 1950s, hence its name. I loved how they incorporated this style into little things such as the paper they used to wrap the food in or the chalkboard that they used as the menu. When I first walked into the burger joint, I loved how cozy and comfortable the place felt. The 1950s theme was on point throughout the entire restaurant.
When ordering my food, I got to order it off of a chalkboard which I thought was very unique. They have a variety of meals, sides and drinks that you could get. I decided to try the chicken sandwich with their homemade limeade. After I ordered, I got my ticket for them to call when my food was ready.
I decided to sit on some swivel chairs that were by the front window of the restaurant. I loved sitting here, as I got to see so many different people walk by. When I got my food, I immediately tried the limeade because I was very thirsty. I’m not sure what they put into the limeade, but it was so good. It had this refreshing taste to it that made me want to purchase another one. I then tried my chicken sandwich and thought that it was pretty good. The chicken was very crispy and sat underneath some lettuce, tomato, and pickles. I really enjoyed all of these flavors together, but overall, it tasted like a plain chicken sandwich to me, nothing really special.
For the chicken sandwich and the limeade, I spent around 13 dollars. If I wanted to add a side, such as onion rings, it would have cost extra. Overall, I think that this is a bit on the pricier side for what I got, but isn’t bad to spend if you are only visiting Williamsburg a couple times out of the year. All in all, I would rate this place a 8/10, only because I think that the food should be a tad bit cheaper. However, I love the 1950s theme of the place and think that this is the perfect and quaint little place to visit to enjoy a blast from the past.
