Sometimes you just want to shuffle your playlist and re-listen to some songs from the good old days. When I shuffle my playlist, I am greeted with songs that I haven’t listened to since COVID. I will say that some artists during this time had absolutely bangers, but they later died out due to a lack of publishing new music. I feel that there are some artists that deserve more recognition, simply because their music is what gets me out of bed in the morning. Here are some artists that I believe are VERY underrated:
- Marshmello
Is it just me or was Marshmello the epitome of our childhood? I remember listening to his first song, “Wavez” that came out in 2015 on Soundcloud. Maybe I was just an energetic child, but I loved the electronic dance music genre; even now being in college. I just feel like his music can make anyone get up and dance because of the infectious vocal hooks and melodic synths, which Marshmello is known for. In 2018, he released “Happier,” collabing with Bastille, which hit number two on the charts. Not only is his music good, but he has this positive aura to him. While Marshmello’s identity was leaked by Forbes in 2017, confirmed to be Chris Comstock, he has never taken off his headpiece or confirmed his identity. He mentioned previously that he didn’t want fame, but wanted to create positive music for people to connect with. As of right now, I haven’t been listening to any of his newly released songs from 2024, but am excited to listen to them when I get the chance.
- David Guetta
I feel like David Guetta is always releasing some amazing, groovy and upbeat songs. I’ve been listening to him since middle school, as he was a popular artist in Germany when I would visit my grandparents over the summer. He’s released a number of popular songs including, “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” “Titanium,” “I’m Good (Blue)” and “Where Them Girls At.” He is easily one of my favorite artists and I get so excited when he pops up on my shuffled playlist now and then because I can’t be in a bad mood when listening to his music. I’m very surprised that many people don’t listen to his music or have never even heard of him before as the music he creates sets the stage for any party or social interaction. As someone who is constantly coming out with amazing music, David Guetta should be more talked about.
- Coldplay
Coldplay will forever be remembered as the band I listen to when I’m feeling all the emotions. My playlist is full of Coldplay songs that I could never get sick of, including, “Clocks,” “Paradise,” “Hymn for the Weekend,” “Yellow” and “Viva La Vida.” I could honestly name a lot more songs. However, despite all this amazing music, I hardly hear people talking about them. Are they even still relevant in today’s music industry? I know they are still creating amazing music, as I have been listening to “WE PRAY” which is a part of their Moon Music album that was released recently on Oct. 4, 2024. I don’t know about anyone else, but Coldplay has been growing on me and has become my number one listened to band on Apple Music. They NEED to be talked about more in the music industry because they are unstoppable when it comes to creating amazing music.
Of course, I could go on and on about all the artists that I feel are underrated, but these are my main three that I feel just need to have more recognition and fame. When you get the chance to, I highly recommend listening to their music because it will give you the power to get up and conquer the day.
