Citizens of the Kunar Province faced a devastating wreckage after a 6.0 magnitude earthquake hit the town late Sunday, Aug. 31. The quake hit just before midnight and was centered 17 miles northeast of Jalalabad, a populated city in the neighboring Nangarhar province, stated by the U.S. Geological Survey. The towns faced extensive damages and casualties, with AP News reporting 800 deaths and more than 2,500 injuries. A villager in Nurgal district, one of the worst-affected areas, said virtually the entire village was destroyed. The villager, who did not give his name, pleaded for people to come to his village and help pull out those who were buried.
