After a devastating house fire in July that left his family home in ashes, Daniel Drouin found luck to be on his side.
In Alberton, a Canadian town on the far eastern coast, Drouin decided to purchase a raffle ticket for about 50 USD. This particular raffle was one that had already had over 10,000 people entered. Life went on, but not even a week later Drouin receives a call from his son that their house was up in flames. Despite his son getting everyone awake and out, it appeared that the Drouins were going to lose their house for good. Weeks after the fire, Drouin was settling in for a nap when he received a call from Myron Yates, the executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prince Edward County, the charity distributing the prize for the winner. The news? He won! The prize? A brand new, fully furnished cottage home! When he received the call, Drouin thought it was a practical joke. But after further clarification, shock hit him.
Drouin received his new house, Monday, Sept. 14, in Charlottetown. “It’s just such a weird coincidence that I get picked out of that many people,” Drouin told CBS News. “And then all the circumstances what’s happened with me and my family in the last month. What are the odds?”
