Fall sports are in full swing now, with teams competing for conference placements, and the wins and losses seem even bigger. Men’s and women’s soccer remain undefeated at 6-0-2 and look to continue their commanding run toward the conference tournament, which begins Nov. 6.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams had an amazing run on Sept. 12 at home, where the men finished 2nd out of 9 teams and the women finished 1st out of 10 teams competing. The team will be traveling to Salisbury, Maryland, on Sept. 17, to compete at the Don Cathcart Invitational, where they hope to continue their hot season start. With only three more races until conference, the distance team looks to add onto their accomplishments last year and top UC Santa Cruz, the defending champions.
Women’s volleyball is looking to continue its championship fever and hold onto the title. The Captains are currently 7-5, with no conference matches played yet. Three of those five losses came against top-10 teams in the country. The captains look to finally be back at home after their 3-game tournament at the Juniata College Asics Invitational, where they went 1-3, but lost to #9 Johns Hopkins and #4 Juniata.
After finishing 6th with 473 points in Annapolis, Maryland, CNU Sailing will head to Charleston, South Carolina. The captains will be at home following the trip to South Carolina, where they will be racing on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19 in Hampton, Virginia.
Men’s tennis will be hosting the CNU Invitational on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The men are looking to keep their streak going after hosting CNU Duals, where the captains finished with five singles wins and four doubles wins throughout the three-day tournament. The women will travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia, to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regionals. This will be their second test following the Mock Dual Invite, which CNU hosted and featured three other teams.
Women’s field hockey continues its historic run, where they were voted #2 in the National Coaches Poll, starting the season off 7-0. The rest of the season for the Captains isn’t a breeze, though; they have a tough road challenge at #10 Stevens on Sept. 28 and four more ranked opponents on the schedule. The rest of the season will be a test to see if they truly are the best in the nation.
