A rainy Saturday afternoon didn’t slow down Christopher Newport University (CNU) football, the Captains used their prior momentum to push themselves to victory against 13th ranked Susquehanna.
The Captains showed out in front of their sold out crowd, putting up 41 points on the 13th team in the country.
The win marks the first ranked victory for the captains since 2016.
With the victory, the Captains are now ranked 23rd in the country with a 3-0 record to go along with it.
Along with the team ranking, quarterback Connor Barry won the NJAC Sports offensive player of the week with his 374 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown. Drevyon Tharrington won the offensive rookie of the week as well, averaging 6.3 yards per carry and 57 yards on the day.
The Captains look to keep this momentum going into next week where they will travel to Glassboro, New Jersey and take on Rowan University, whom they beat last year 24-7 at home, at 1 p.m. on Oct. 4.
