In what’s possibly the most publicized injury of the month, Marvel’s “Spiderman” star Tom Holland has suffered a mild concussion during a take on the set of upcoming Marvel Studios film “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.”
According to The New York Post, Holland “cracked his head” on Sept. 19, while shooting a complex action sequence at Pinewood Studios, a UK soundstage where production on the sequel is underway.
“Tom experienced a mild concussion and out of precaution, he will take a break from filming and is expected to return to work in a few days. Thankfully, no one else was affected and production will continue on as planned,” a close source told CNN.
Shortly after his injury, Holland was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. Thankfully, the star didn’t require hospitalization and was able to leave the same day with what was sure to be a brutal headache. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have agreed to temporarily suspend filming in Holland’s absence and reportedly met to reassess their safety protocols.
The day after his injury, he and his fiancée Zendaya were seen at a charity event for The Brother’s Trust, though Holland reportedly felt ill and left early.
The following weekend, Holland finally spoke out about his injury when he posted the following message on his Instagram: “What a night! Another huge success. The Brother’s Trust means more to me than I could possibly say and I have to say a huge thank you to my Mum and her wonderful friends for putting on another incredible night. Raising money for fantastic causes and having fun doing it! I’m sorry I had to leave early but I’m feeling better and on the mend. A huge thanks to my Dad for taking over after I left. The show got considerably funnier.”
Holland has been recovering privately and finally returned to shooting Monday, Sept 29. Sony Pictures’ production schedule reportedly faces no significant shift from this delay and the newest addition to the spiderman franchise “Brand New Day” is still expected to release this summer.
Before the accident, production on “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” faced minimal issue; the film had built anticipation for fans with the staggering of major casting announcements, such as Mark Ruffalo’s return as the Hulk, Jon Bernthal’s film debut as the Punisher, and Michael Mando’s turn as the Scorpion.
The film is also set to mark the MCU debut of rising stars like “Stranger Things” actress Sadie Sink, “The Bear” favorite Liza Colón-Zayas, and “Severance” standout and this year’s Best Supporting Actor winner Tramell Tillman. “Brand New Day” will be Tom Holland’s first time in the Spider-Man role in half a decade and mark ten years since his debut as the character in “Captain America: Civil War”.
As of Sept. 30, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is still on track to release in theaters July 31, 2026 and Tom Holland is expected to make a full recovery from this terrible accident.
