From football, men’s and women’s soccer, field hockey and others, the Christopher Newport University (CNU) Captains have been making a push athletically and showing why they’re here to stay.
The women’s field hockey team has been on a historic run, currently standing at 14-0, the only remaining undefeated team in Division III field hockey. The Captains most recently received all 19 first-place votes and have remained number one for the past three weeks.
The men’s and women’s soccer teams have also made a case as to why they both are the best in the country. Ranked 13th in the nation, the women’s team has been on a dominant run with a record of 11-1-2, with their sole loss coming to Mary Washington 1-0. The women look to keep their hot streak going and close out the regular season with a win at Salisbury on Nov. 1.
The men are not too far behind either, with a 9-1-4 record and ranked 21st in the nation. Men’s soccer looks to close out the regular season on the same note as the women, facing Mary Washington at home on the 29th and then traveling to Salisbury on Nov. 1. Both of these rankings are updated on the 12th of each month and are updated every Tuesday at approximately 3p.m.
The men’s football team has been putting up statement wins since the first snap. After the double overtime win against Rowan, the Captains have put up a combined 118 points in the past two games and have only given up 7. After their most recent performance during Homecoming, the Captains are ranked 15th in the nation with their 6-0 record and 3-0 in conference play.
After coming off an impressive 2-1 record in the Coast-to-Coast Invitational, the women’s volleyball team has been dominant. Before their loss to Salisbury, the Captains were on an 8-match winning streak.
These wins helped push them in the rankings; they are now 35th in the nation according to NPI rankings. With the CNU Invitational coming on Nov. 7, the Captains look to start a new win streak and bring the energy with them into postseason play.
