A plane carrying the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen faced a GPS jam over Bulgaria, AP News reported Monday, Sep. 1. Commission spokesperson Arianna Podestà confirmed Bulgarian authority suspects “blatant” interference by Russia. Von der Leyen’s plane incident is the latest in a series that involves Russian electronic interference with GPS satellite navigation, according to AP News. The EU President is a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin and Moscow’s war in Ukraine and is currently on a four-day tour of the EU’s eastern flank. A statement from Bulgarian officials said the satellite signal was lost as the plane approached Plovdiv Airport in Bulgaria.
