Iran Weights Confrontation or Diplomacy
Iran prepared Sunday, Sept. 28, for a possible confrontation with the West after the United Nations reimposed sanctions over its nuclear program. The sanctions imposed freeze Iranian assets abroad, halt arms deals with Tehran, and penalize any development of Iran’s ballistic missile Programs, according to AP News. Iran’s Parliament denounced the sanctions before going into a closed-door session to discuss the country’s response to the sanctions being imposed by the UN. It is believed that the country’s response could include pulling out of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. With tensions rising, many people are worried about the rising conflict between Iran and Israel, and potentially the US.
Russian Drone And Missile Attack on Kyiv Kills 4
Overnight Saturday, Sept. 27, into Sunday, Sept. 28, Russia unleashed a barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine, killing four individuals and wounding at least 10 others, according to AP News. This attack marks the first major bombardment since the air attack on Ukraine’s capital last month. Between Saturday night and Sunday Morning, Russia fired a total of 595 exploding drones and 48 missiles targeted at civilian areas across the city of Kyiv. Of those air strikes, Ukrainian air defenses shot down 566 drones and 45 missiles. Aside from Kyiv, Russian drones and missiles targeted regions of Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, and Odesa, wounding 70 plus individuals across the country.
Mideast Nations Confront Chaos In Their Region
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman on Saturday publicly denounced Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza and expressed their discontent with the UN’s failures to achieve a ceasefire and end the bloodshed, according to AP News. In response to recent attacks, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidia called on the UN to apply effective pressure to bring Israel to the negotiating table. Similarly, Foreign Minister of Egypt Badr Abdelatty, whose country has served as a mediator in Gaza, harshly criticized the international community for standing by and not interfering in the conflict, as international law is being violated in Gaza. Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, said the suffering of Palestinians and the unprecedented humanitarian crisis in Gaza make it imperative for the international community to aid in ending the war in Gaza and achieving peace between the nations.
