Stress is an everyday part of life, no matter where you are in life. School, jobs, college and relationships can affect our stress levels, and make it difficult to concentrate or even feel good about ourselves. Luckily, there are a variety of ways to deal with stress. Below I’ve listed my favorite tips on how to mitigate stress.
- Find a creative outlet
Many people combat stress by finding something that they enjoy doing, such as any creative outlet. For some people, that may be art such as painting and crocheting. Others may document their experiences in poetry or writing. Even exercising or doing sports is also helpful in eliminating stress. Realistically, there are an unlimited amount of activities to cope with stress, you just have to find the right one for you. Finding new hobbies that bring you an immense amount of joy is also a great step into alleviating stress.
- Spend time with friends
Sometimes, spending time with friends can help with stress. Sharing a good laugh or munching on some Crumbl cookies is all that you need in order to take your mind off of everything that is bothering you. The people that you spend time with are crucial in helping you conquer any stress that comes your way. Make sure to keep these people close to you and always lean on them for support during difficult times. That’s what makes a bond between two people very special.
- Go home
If spending time with friends doesn’t alleviate your stress, the next best option is to plan a trip home. Family is the best medicine when it comes to feelings of stress and frustration. However, sometimes that can be difficult when the family lives so far away. My suggestion to those who have family in a different state, or even in a different country is to schedule zoom calls with family members so that you can stay in touch with them. When I am feeling very stressed, I always call my mom, and she always picks up the phone. Find your person of support and lean on them when things get very difficult.
- Talk to counseling services
Another great resource to lean towards when you are struggling with stress is to talk to counseling services. CNU offers counseling services to all students, and you can easily go make an appointment online or in person. This is a very great resource that has helped me with stressful situations in the past. Whether you are struggling with academics, relationships, mental health, etc. the counseling department is amazing at listening to their clients and offering helpful tips to help cope with stress.
- Recharge
Recharging is another great resource that you can use in order to help with stress. This may include watching TV, taking a nap, or even going to bed early. Practicing self care is also a good resource, as it helps you relax and recharge for the busy week ahead. Adding these small things to your regime will help alleviate stress.
I hope these tips help you manage your stress effectively. Even though things seem difficult at the moment, just remember that you are strong and you will overcome anything!
