Personally, I sometimes struggle with keeping up my appearance inside and out, and this is a common theme for most individuals who are attending college. Life can get so hectic and intense that we forget to take care of ourselves. It’s so easy to put everything else before our health and wellness. That is something that needs to change.
Throughout my junior and the start of my senior year, I was not taking care of myself as much as I wanted to. There were so many things that I wanted to get done that I haven’t been able to do. I would always do things for others first, and that really deteriorated the relationship I had with myself. So over the course of September and October, I’ve been doing more to take care of myself and to put myself first.
First, I started doing things that I’ve been struggling with for the longest time. I’ve been finding ways to balance my meals and to drink enough water throughout the day. I’ve also made small adjustments to my sleep schedule so that I could fall asleep more effectively and stay asleep throughout the night. Doing things like this are so important because food, water and sleep essentially fuel our body into the next day. If you want to start taking care of yourself better, start in these three areas first, because these are the most important.
Next, do things that you were hoping to get done but haven’t yet. For example, I’ve been wanting to get my nails done for a while now, but never have time to go to the nail salon and sit down for an appointment. This weekend, I took the liberty of doing my own nails, which has been an absolute game changer for me. I used these nail stickers from a brand called Dashing Diva and cured them under a UV light, then filed them down and shaped them. Bam! Done in under an hour. Taking the time to do my nails was so worth it because now I feel a lot more put together and fierce. Some other things I also did over the weekend to make me feel more put together were doing teeth whitening strips and putting on a face mask. Doing things like this will make you feel so much better!
Lastly, protect your peace. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and make you happy. Don’t settle for less when it comes to relationships and friendships. Having amazing people around you is really important for your health and well being because you have people in your circle who will check up on you and ensure that you are okay.
These are just a few ways to ensure that you are glowing from the inside out. Always make sure that you are taking care of yourself and putting yourself first. Remember that you will always be your number one priority.
