There’s something about the smell of apples and cinnamon that instantly feels like fall. As the weather cools and the leaves start to turn, a simple apple puff pastry becomes more than a dessert, it’s a celebration of the season’s coziest flavors.
With just a handful of ingredients, you can create something that looks bakery-worthy and yet feels like a homemade gift.
For 10-12 pastries:
Ingredients:
Four to five big apples
Three tablespoons of cinnamon
¼ cup of sugar
Two to three sheets of puffy pastry
One egg
One tablespoon of water
Optional: honey
Utensils:
Baking pan
Parchment paper
Two containers to hold cinnamon sugar mix and egg wash
Knife
Cutting Board
A working oven
Set the oven to 375 degrees.
Start by washing your apples and slicing them into thick slices. As you go, cut holes in the middle of each slice to take out the pit and seeds.
Dip both sides of each slice into a cinnamon sugar mix.
After each slice is dipped, weave a long strand of puff pastry through the hole of each apple. Some slices may require multiple strands of puff pastry depending on how large.
When all slices are wrapped in dough and placed on a parchment paper covered baking sheet, brush egg wash over the top gently. Sprinkle any remaining cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
Optional: drizzle honey over each slice.
Bake for 35 minutes or until golden brown.
Whether served fresh from the oven with a drizzle of caramel or a scoop of vanilla ice cream, this dessert captures everything we love about autumn in one beautiful, buttery bite.
