There have been many instances where I felt like my life was way too full of things that didn’t need to be there. When millions of things are fighting for my attention, I find it important to weed out the things that don’t actually need my full and immediate attention. Here are some of those things that have helped me, and just may help you.
- Turning off social media notifications
I am a social media manager. My whole job is centered around social media. I also keep in touch with a lot of long distance friends through social media. However, if I’m not doing my job at the moment or actively having a conversation with a friend, I really don’t need to be seeing snapchat notifications pop up every 3 seconds. I can’t delete them, but I can turn their notifications off. After doing this, I’ve noticed that I barely check my social media anymore.
- Physically clean out your spaces
This one can be done in a few different ways. I personally either go through all of my clothes and get rid of whichever ones I don’t wear and donate them or I will clean my room all together. By cleaning my room, I don’t just mean folding my laundry and taking out the trash. I mean clean my bathroom, wipe down every surface, rearrange some things, the whole kit, kat and kaboodle. I promise you, you will feel better.
- Savoring your energy
I feel more ‘claustrophobic’ and cluttered when my schedule is full and my energy is low. Sometimes, I can’t do anything about it because I’m a full-time student and a part-time worker. However, there are times where I can control what I do and where I spend my energy. For example, if a friend asks me to go to a coffee shop and do homework, I will absolutely say yes for a few reasons. My friends energize me and make me feel loved. Even if I’m doing homework, at least I’m doing it in good company with a good cup of coffee.
