When there are hundreds of thoughts going through your mind everyday, it can be difficult to really sort them out and categorize them. They start to mesh together and they blow right past our conscious mind. However, some of the thoughts that pass through can be quite harmful. While it can be hard, it’s necessary to find these thoughts and stop them in their tracks. Here are some of the thoughts to look out for.
- “I wish I could do x like them/look like them.”
Let me just say, life would be so boring if everyone looked alike and had the same talents. Everyone brings something different to the table. We need diversity. Be confident and content in the fact that there is absolutely no one in the world like you, and that the world needs you exactly as you are.
- “I’m not ready.”
Feeling ready is a feeling I don’t think is real nine times out of ten. Whether this be applying to a job, asking out someone you like, or even going into public, feeling ready doesn’t seem like it’ll ever come. However, here’s the kicker…the perfect moment is now. There is rarely ever a time where it’s the perfect time to do something. The more you wait, the less time you have. Do it now, because you’re ready now.
- “What if someone doesn’t approve?”
This is one thought I myself am still working on. I crave other peoples’ approval. I love to know that people are pleased with me or what I’m doing. The only thing is, that’ll never be the case. There will always be someone who doesn’t 100% agree with me, or who doesn’t like me, or some other disapproval towards me. If that’s the case, I might as well do what’s best for me! A quote I heard one time that was super cheesy but true is “You can be the sweetest peach, but some people just don’t like peaches.” I think this quote speaks for itself!
- “I should know this/be doing this by now.”
Success isn’t always measurable and never has a timeline. What one person may see as a very small step, someone else sees as the biggest step towards a better life. What one person may see as a small job opportunity is the biggest chance at success for someone who has been laid off for a year. Success has never been, and never will be linear for everyone. Go at your own pace, celebrate the small and big accomplishments, and keep going.
