As we’re wrapping up this fall semester, I want to share some tips for facing finals week. Here are some things that have helped me in the past, that I still use now!
Sleep
While finals is absolutely the time for late night cramming and buzzer-beater submissions, it is critical to still prioritize your health. Sleep is so important for mental and physical health, and in this sniffles season, keeping healthy is critical. Sometimes, it is more beneficial to get an extra hour of sleep than to keep staring at an empty Google doc trying to write a paper. Get sleep!
Notes and Study Guides
I am a relatively decent note-taker, but even if you are not, looking through old class notes and course materials is very helpful for studying for finals. One way to help summarize your class materials is to write up a sheet of notes with key points from the semester. This, as well as study guides, will help you to review the information as you write but also provides you with a sheet to review last minute before your tests!
Study atmosphere
Nothing is more frustrating to me in finals season than trying to focus and being distracted by random things. Finding a place to study is so important, and I personally prefer working in the library or McMurran as opposed to my room. The library gets a really lovely atmosphere of camaraderie and focus during finals, where all your fellow students are there studying too. And easy-access to Einsteins never hurts!
Wishing you all the best of luck as you tackle finals week. Hang in there Captains, and finish strong!
