Every semester Christopher Newport University gathers together into the gymnasium that occupies the freedmen center. Tables upon tables fill the gymnasium, an array of clubs spreading out around you as students file through the lines of clubs and opportunities.
With over 200 clubs to choose from it’s guaranteed that you’ll find your place.
After interviewing several clubs throughout CNU’s involvement fair, we are certain that there is a club on CNU’s campus for you, if it isn’t then there’s always space to make it.
There are clubs for joint interests which are crucial to make friends, such as Pallet and Sip, a club dedicated to sipping tea, painting works of art with the help of guided videos. Pallet and Sip is a great way to meet new people, have a good time, or to relax within the craze of how hectic college life can become. This club is a great place to relax and unwind. There’s also Kpop Constellation where you can meet people who share your love of K-pop and dance, and project those interests as competitions and performances.
There’s also a multitude of science related clubs if that’s more your speed. The Astronomy club meets every Friday from 5-6, as well as every time the space that surrounds our planet has an event to witness. The Society of Physics students is another way to get involved with your science community, specifically for anyone and everyone interested in physics. These are great clubs to meet and connect with other students that share your interests.
If meeting new people without matching interests but playing games tickles your fancy, then clubs such as Survivor may be up your ally. Survivor is a club that involves a large group of students playing the game Survivor all around campus, facing off in different challenges, eventually voting one another off until the end, when the winner gets a hundred dollars. Similar to Survivor, with a similar level of competitive rush with friends, we also have Knights of the force, a club for learning how to wield a light saber just like star wars.
There are also an array of clubs ready to change the world. Men’s Mental Awareness is a club dedicated to teaching students about mental health and destigmatizing. The club’s title poses an emphasis on the stigmatization of men’s mental health whilst being gender inclusive as a club. The Student Sustainability Commission, our schools club dedicated to helping our planet, also the club responsible for our Reuzzi boxes at the dining hall to help limit waste.
Whether you want a group of people like you, friends with shared interests, to make an impact on the world, or to make a difference at our school, somewhere at cnu there is a place for you!
