As a senior in college, you can guess I’ve done my fair share of studying and late nights.
Even more so, late nights of studying material that was never gonna be on the test I was studying for. I LOVE a professor who gives study guides. Or even professors who tell you ‘focus on these slides, don’t focus on this.” Those professors have my heart.
However, I have a bone to pick with the professors who refuse to make a study guide because I should ‘remember it all.’ No one remembers every single detail from every single lecture. If you do, I envy you. However, 99% of us don’t.
Some professors claim they don’t want students to dwell and hyperfixate on the study guide and neglect other materials. Valid argument. However, the least you can do is give us some topics to make sure we know with a disclaimer at the bottom that says “this study guide is not exclusive.” Give us SOMETHING.
These professors are usually also the ones who barely have students passing their classes and dreading their exams. No one likes an exam, but no one likes it especially when they feel like they learned nothing after eight hours of studying, all for it to not even be on the exam.
No, professor, I don’t remember what the textbook said on page 74 in paragraph 3 about whatever niche topic you’re asking about. Just throw me a bone. Please. Sincerely, a terrible test taker already who doesn’t need more stress.
