This year marks a historic milestone for Christopher Newport University (CNU) Football — the program’s 25th anniversary, but it’s not the only reason to be excited about CNU football. The Captains beat Montclair State University 49-42 for an in conference win and to continue the undefeated season. The team also celebrated 25 years of Captains football at halftime with multiple tribute videos and a majority of the first ever CNU football team coming together once again. The Captains now look onto this weekend for senior night and one of the most important games of the season.
One of the most anticipated matchups of the year, and the game that decides who wins the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Christopher Newport is currently first in the conference but Salisbury is right behind with the same 8-0 record and 5-0 in conference play.
Salisbury will travel to Christopher Newport on Nov. 8 for a top-15 matchup. The Captains look to continue their undefeated season by closing out the season with a win against their rival. Salisbury is on a hot streak as well, undefeated, and coming off a 51-7 win against William Paterson this is going to be no normal test for the Captains. The Captains are 6-17 all-time against Salisbury, with their last matchup being a hard-fought loss, 38-42, on Oct. 5, 2024, at Salisbury.
