With students arriving back for the first week of the new semester, winter athletics are officially in full swing. The women’s and men’s teams begin their in-conference play with the women’s basketball facing rival Salisbury on Jan. 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Freeman Center. The game is also Alumni Appreciation Day, to support all alumni who have graduated from the program.
The women’s team is on a three-game winning streak and is still undefeated at home at 5-0. They are also 7-1 in away games and 3-2 on neutral site locations. The men’s basketball team has more time until their conference play begins, but the Captains are on a six-game win streak coming off a thriller against Johns Hopkins University (JHU), where they won 68-65. The Captains are 7-1 at home, 5-1 in away games and 2-1 in neutral locations. The men’s team will face East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) at home on Jan. 17 at 4:00 p.m.
Both men’s and women’s teams are ranked in the top 20 in the nation and have an over .800 win percentage on the season. Now with a little less than half of their regular season remaining, the Captains look to continue both of their win streaks into conference play and the postseason.
