Even with snow still on the ground, fall sports have officially arrived on the campus. Men’s lacrosse kicked off the 2026 season with a huge opening 17-4 victory against Elizabethtown on January 30th. The Captains were ranked 2nd according to the USA Lacrosse Magazine National Preseason Poll, right behind last year’s national champions, Tufts University. The Captains face Hampton-Sydney College on February 7th at 12:00 PM to face their first away opponent.
Women’s lacrosse played William and Mary on February 4th for their first exhibition game (before this article is posted). The women finished second in the coaches’ poll, right behind Salisbury University. They start the season against Berry College on February 13th
Women’s and men’s tennis are both nationally ranked and slotted to win the conference, but are looking at greater accomplishments later in the season. Their exhibition game against Longwood University was postponed due to freezing temperatures.
The men begin their season against Hampton University on February 7th at 12:00 PM, where the 24th-ranked captains look to continue and prove why they deserve to be in the national ranking conversation.
The women play right after at 3:00 PM against Hampton University, where they begin their season ranked 24th in the country according to the ITA preseason poll. The Captains are coming in ranked for the fourth time in the history of the program and look to capitalize on their already historic start to the season.
Baseball and softball begin a little bit later. Baseball plays Eastern Mennonite University at home at 2:00 PM on February 10th, and then has a game the next day, where they play Averett in Danville at 2:00 PM as well. Softball begins its season away at Fayetteville, North Carolina, where they face Methodist University in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 PM.
