GOOD NEWS! An $18 million Rembrandt painting of a lion is auctioned by a billionaire who donates the money to help save the animal in the painting! The painting, known as “Young Lion Resting,” was one of only six in existence of Rembrandt lion paintings. Dr. Thomas Kaplan owns one of the world’s leading conservation organizations, dedicated to saving big cats such as lions and tigers. Kaplan later admitted that it was the most he and his wife had ever spent on when embarking on their journey of collecting Rembrandt and other Dutch or Flemish masters pieces in 2003. All of the proceeds from this sale will help ensure that the lion survives long into the future. Kaplan’s associate, Jon Ayers, is excited for the future of their conservation charity, Panthera.
“ A work that so vividly captures the soul and spirits of lions,” Ayers said, “ now will help protect their living counterparts.”
