The “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Ariz. home on Jan. 31 and was reported missing the following day.
A glove containing DNA found a few miles from Guthrie’s house appears to match those worn by a masked person outside her house the night she disappeared, according to the FBI.
The development comes as law enforcement scrambles to find any potential evidence as the search for Guthrie heads into its third week.
Authorities have expressed concern about Guthrie’s health. She is said to have a pacemaker and takes daily medicine to deal with high blood pressure.
Authorities say her blood was found on the front porch. Purported ransom notes were sent to news outlets and Guthrie’s children, but two deadlines for paying have passed.
The FBI released surveillance footage outside Guthrie’s house showing a person completely covered and unidentifiable. On Thursday, Feb. 12, the FBI declared the person a suspect and described them as a male, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and a medium build. The police said he was carrying a 25-liter “Ozark Trail Hiker Pack” backpack.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, a glove was found and sent off for DNA testing. The FBI said that it received preliminary results and was awaiting official confirmation.
The Pima County sheriff and FBI announced phone numbers and a website to offer tips. The FBI said it has collected more than 13,00 tips since the beginning of this month. The sheriff’s department said it has taken at least 18,000 calls. Neither department has said whether any tips have advanced the investigation.
Sheriff deputies detained a person on Feb. 10 for questioning. Although authorities confirmed the man was released, they did not reveal what led them to stop him.
