Dancing With the Stars is Back!!

Dancing With the Stars is Back!!

The long-running hit TV series Dancing With the Stars is settling nicely into its new home. Disney Plus’s first live show, Dancing With the Stars, premiered Monday night, September 19th. The familiar show was mainly left unchanged in its modified commercial-free setting, allowing more time for judge feedback and audience interaction. The show has a fantastic lineup of stars, including Tik Tok sensation Charli D’amelio and her mother Heidi D’Amelio, Charlie’s Angel Cheryl Ladd, Jersey Shore’s Vinny Guadagnino, and singer Jordin Sparks.

Returning host Tyra Banks was joined by a new co-host, Alfonso Ribeiro, an American actor, and TV personality who was also a contestant on season 19 and won. Also returning were judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli. Throughout the episode, the judges gave great feedback and contributions.

With the Premiere Night Party theme, sixteen celebrities and professional couples went to the dance floor to dance to the celebs’ favorite party song. Viewers heard all sorts of songs from “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston and “Sweet Home Alabama.” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Taking first place was Charli D’amelio and Mark Ballas performing a Cha-Cha to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage.” This dance incorporated Tik-Tok moves, which sent the crowd and judges roaring. The performance was stellar and received them a top score of the night. Charli’s partner, Mark Bellas, is a two-time mirrorball champion and was the youngest mirrorball champion when he won at age 21. He’s also a fan favorite pro and returned after five years of being away from the ballroom.

D.J Pierce, who performs as Drag Queen Shangela, is also making history as the first male couple to compete in the U.S franchise with professional dancer Gleb Savchenko. Shangela uses she/her pronouns when performing, and Pierce uses he/him pronouns when out of drag. After their dazzling salsa performance, the duo received a standing ovation for the Pussycat Dolls’ song “When I Grow Up.” The duo earned sevens from all four judges, the fourth-highest score of the 16 dance partners who performed.

Jason Lewis and his partner Peta Murgatroyd were first to leave Dancing With The Stars last Monday. Sex and the City star Jason Lewis danced the Cha Cha and sadly found himself in the bottom two, with Vinny Guadagnino and his partner Koko Iwasaki. Vinny and Koko were saved by the public vote allowing them to progress in the competition.

This season will showcase amazing Dancing and spectacular themed dances. Still to come is the iconic Disney-inspired night, Elvis night, and even a Micheal Buble-themed night. New episodes air on Monday nights at 8pm Eastern Time.
