Canadian Prime Minister resigns
BBC News reported that on Jan. 6, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that he will be resigning from his role. Prime Minister Trudeau served for approximately nine years as Canada’s leader, however his decision to step down stems from receiving pressures from his party.
In a press conference Trudeau expressed he was facing “internal battles” with his party and that he is not the best option for the country in its next election, which is scheduled for Oct. 25.
With United States President-elect Donald Trump soon taking office, many economists have speculated concerns regarding his push to implement a 25% tax on imported goods from Canada. BBC News reported that economists are warning of the negative impact this tax will bring on Canada’s economy. This imposition stems from Trump’s push to “increase security on its shared border” with Canada.
