Prime Minister insists on no Palestinian state
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to oppose any attempts to establish a Palestinian state on Sunday, Nov. 16, according to AP News. The statement was issued just one day before the U.N. Security Council is to vote on an American resolution that leaves the door open for Palestinian independence. Netanyahu is currently facing heavy international pressure to show flexibility as the U.S. attempts to push forward with its Gaza ceasefire Proposal. The U.N. Security Council is expected to vote on Monday, Nov. 17, on the U.S. proposal to establish a U.N. mandate for an international stabilization force in Gaza.
Protesters stand against government corruption in Mexico
Protesters gathered in cities across Mexico to express their frustration with how President Claudia Sheinbaum has handled corruption and violent crime, according to The New York Times. Members of Mexico’s Gen Z and several older protesters hit the streets in more than 50 cities on Saturday, Nov. 15. The protest underscored a persistent public perception that, despite the President’s attempt to decrease violence and weaken organized crime, many citizens in Mexico feel that corruption remains a powerful force in their lives. Rodrigo Santana told the New York Times that the goal of the movement was to remove the president and to show that the citizens were angry and did not stand with her. The protesters were a clear sign of widespread frustration and demand for change in Mexico
No longer enriching uranium in Iran
According to Iran’s Foreign Minister, who spoke on Sunday, Nov. 16, Tehran is no longer enriching uranium at any site in the country. This statement made by Foreign Minister Araghchi was an attempt for Iran to signal to the West that it remains open to potential negotiations over its atomic program, according to AP News. Foreign Minister Araghchi stated to AP News that “there is no undeclared nuclear enrichment in Iran,” stating that all of their facilities were under safeguards and monitoring by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
