Presidential endorsements have become important for candidates in Virginia’s race for governor, WHRO stated in regard to President Trump endorsing republican candidate Winsome Earle-Sears.
Abigail Spanberger, the democratic candidate for governor, has gained public support from former president Barack Obama in a political rally last weekend, on Nov. 1 in the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.
The event was Obama’s first political rally in Hampton Roads since 2012 and the first time a Democratic president had made a campaign stop in the region in more than a decade, according to WHRO.
Before introducing the former president, Spandberger made clear that she will be a Governor who “will always put the Commonwealth first, who won’t put party and ideology ahead of the people she was elected to serve.”
Obama urged those in the audience to vote and support leaders like Spandberger.
“If you believe in that better story of America, don’t sit this one out. Vote,” Obama said to a crowd of 7,000. “Vote for leaders like Abigail who believe in it too.”
U.S. Senator Time Kaine was in attendance at the rally, as well as Virginia Attorney General candidate Jay Jones. They both spoke of their support of Spandberger.
