Newport News woman wins jackpot from her bed
Daylena St. John was in the comfort of her own home when she learned she struck it big with a $558, 863 jackpot while playing the Bucks Triple Play lottery game on her phone.
Almost immediately, her dreams were coming true and she sat up in bed realizing she won the money. St. John said decided to play after realizing she had a little extra money in her budget and wanted to take a chance. St. John told WAVY News she called her mother to tell her the good news. “I’m still in shock,” she told reporters.
A driver flees after a hit-and-run which involved striking a 6-year-old
Newport News police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after hitting a 6-year-old boy with their vehicle Wednesday, March 4.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. in the area of Colberts Lane and Jefferson Ave., confirmed by county police.
Investigators determined the child, identified as Dralen Satchell,was unattended when he wandered into traffic and was hit by a passing vehicle. The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
Officials say Satchell has autism and is non-verbal. Surveillance video from the Palace Inn next door shows the moment of impact, as the light-colored sedan struck Satchell.
Officers from the NNPD arrived at the scene and began a preliminary investigation into the collision. A senior communications specialists police department stated that officers are working to identify and locate the driver. The department has not released a description of the vehicle or the driver involved in the incident.
WAVY confirmed with police that the child’s parents are not facing charges at this time.
