Patrick Henry mall shooting
On Saturday, Nov. 29, a man was killed in a shooting inside a store located in Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News.
In a video obtained as evidence, the suspect Gary Carlton Moore III is seen in the store “New Square” and approaching the victim 26-year-old Diamante Tre’veon Neal. A short time later, Moore is seen tackling Neal. Court documents say Moore disarmed Neal and produced his own concealed firearm and shot Neal multiple times. Neal was taken to Riverside Hospital where he later died. The documents said that Moore shot Neal in self-defense.
Investigation, although still ongoing, discovered Moore does not contain a valid concealed handgun permit. In 2017, he was convicted for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
Moore has since been charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm during a felony, discharging a firearm within occupied dwelling and carrying a concealed weapon second offense, according to WAVY News.
Patrick Henry Mall was closed for the remainder of the day as investigations proceeded, but it was reopened the following day.
