Tropical Smoothie Bowls

“Underwhelming to say the least”

A couple weeks ago, Tropical Smoothie unveiled new “tropic bowls” for their menu. There were 3 yogurt bowls made with Chobani yogurt, these being Green Dream yogurt, Chia Oatmeal Pudding, and Mixed Berry Greek yogurt, there was also an Acai bowl. The Chia Oatmeal Pudding contains chia seeds, red quinoa, coconut milk, steel cut oats, blueberries, banana, yogurt, granola, and honey. The Mixed Berry Greek yogurt contains strawberries, blueberries, granola, almonds, chia seeds, yogurt, and honey. The Green Dream contains avocado, lime, honey, spinach, kale, blueberries, granola, chia seeds, coconut, honey, and yogurt. The Acai bowl contains an Acai base, strawberries, blueberries, coconut, banana, granola, chia seeds, and honey.

My partner and I split one of the bowls, the Green Dream yogurt bowl, and it was underwhelming to say the least. While all of the ingredients that made up the bowl can be good on their own or even combined in some way, the execution here ended up quite poorly. There’s just too much stuff and none of it feels good when it’s all together. As you eat it, all of the flavors of the ingredients melt together in a weird and ultimately mediocre way. The avocado and yogurt really brought the quality down too, even if you like the Chobani yogurt. The only great stand out are the fresh blueberries.

While we only ate one of the bowls, you might ask yourself if this $9 giant cluster of ingredients from Tropical Smoothie is truly worth it when you could go literally anywhere else for yogurt or an Acai bowl.
